Toil & Trouble
Toil & Trouble, a Halloween post or a metaphor for my life? Today, I’ll just be focusing on Halloween. Though it’s been ages since I’ve blogged regularly and I owe you an explanation as to why, today I will focus on my week in Charlestown and my magical Halloween celebrations.
There is nothing quite like a New England Fall. My best friend since High School lives up in Charlestown and last year she invited me to join in her neighborhood’s Halloween Celebrations. It was so much fun, that we decided to make it a tradition. So this year, I headed up north again for some witchy fun. As I drove toward Boston Saturday evening a giant full moon was rising over the Mass Turnpike. I took it as a good sign that our spooky plans would be a success.
The weekend started with an historical tour of Phipps Cemetery in Charlestown, Boston’s oldest and perhaps spookiest. This cemetery contains some of the oldest graves in the country, dating as far back as 1630. Many of the tombstones are believed to be carved by the notable “The Charleston Carver” or “The Stone Cutter of Boston”. One of the earliest stone cutters in North America, his signature skull design and decor would become hallmarks of the New England headstones designs for centuries to come.
Halloween evening our spooky celebrations continued. We had debated a few themes and ultimately chose Hocus Pocus and I’m so happy we did, we had the best time. It was so much fun watching all of the children's reactions and telling them how delicious they looked, we even scared a few teenagers.
We played and posed for so many photos with the trick or treaters that my Oura (fitness tracking ring) thought I was doing a workout. I can confidently say a wonderful time was had by all and I can’t wait until next year.
A few final festive moments from around town…until next year my goblins and ghouls!
